Officers Examine Vandalism, Fires at Maryland Church buildings | Maryland Information | gadgetfee

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — Investigations are underway into a number of weekend incidents of obvious arson and vandalism at church buildings in Maryland, authorities stated.

Montgomery County authorities stated the incidents occurred at three church buildings of various denominations a brief distance away from one another in Bethesda, TV station WJLA reported.

In a single day Sunday, a blaze was apparently set at St. Jane Frances De Chantal Parish, forcing worshippers to attend mass at an alternate location Sunday morning, information shops reported.

Dozens of firefighters responded to an alarm on the church round 2 a.m. and rapidly extinguished the fireplace, in response to the Montgomery County Hearth and Rescue Service.

The hearth concerned a number of pews in the primary church space, Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the company, tweeted. No accidents had been reported.

In an announcement in regards to the fireplace, a spokesperson from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington stated the archdiocese was shocked by the incident however that they’re a “resilient neighborhood of religion.”

Earlier within the weekend, a fireplace was set at a Methodist church that was damaged into, in response to fireplace officers. Additionally Saturday, investigators discovered broken headstones and damaged wooden items scattered across the neighborhood of Wildwood Baptist Church, WJLA reported.
